Description: US President Donald Trump has authorized the deployment of additional 2 thousand National Guard troops and deployed around 700 members of the Marine Corps in bases close to Los Angeles amid growing fears of the four – day protests escalating further. Trump also directly and publicly clashed with California’s Governor, Gavin Newsom, accusing him of allowing insurrectionists and lawless illegal aliens tear the city down over what the President labeled as a legitimate immigration policy. Newsom also accused the President of illegally deploying the National Guard on the streets of Los Angeles further incentivizing violence and provoking resentment from the protestors which escalated the high – risk situation of public safety. Newsom also announced that the State of California would sue the President’s office over the illegal involvment of the Marines and the National Guard in handling local and public safety issues. Protests spread over other cities and states as people were simultaneously seen peacefully protesting in Santa Ana, Dallas, Austin and San Francisco. The civic unrest enters into its fourth day while the local and federal governments are challenging one another publicly.

Impact: Trump’s strong grip around projecting power and safety through force could significantly backfire as indicated through the widespread civic upheaval. The city of Los Angeles has turned into a political and operational battlefield between Trump and Newsom as Republicans have repeatedly accused the Governor of following his own political ambitions instead of governing his state adequately. The additional deployment of a military forces such as the Marines would impose considerable complications as the operational coordination with the local law enforcement would require high – level of coordination and would be timely ineffective. The unstable public safety situation in LA and beyond would further deteriorate as the federal and local government continue to focus on their public image and political stance rather than combating real time security and political crises. Trump’s enforcement of its immigration policies while denying people legitimate due process would further cause internal divisions across the US sparking concerns over wider civic unrest and domestic instability.
