Description: Sudanese Rapid Support Forces (RSF) paramilitaries have conducted their largest military offensive since the start of the war two years ago. The clashes have killed more than 200 civilians and displaced thousands of others in the city of El Fasher in the Darfur region. The conflict, which has so far caused massive displacements of over 12 million people, has effectively divided the country into two main parts with the RSF mainly controlling southern parts of the country and the Darfur region. The UN has heavily condemned the violence and stated that the war has caused the worst humanitarian crisis ever recorded. Reports indicated that Relief International medical camps were heavily raided by RSF forces, and its medical staff was subject to war crimes and atrocities. Key Sudan conference is set to take place in London on Tuesday, 15 Apr, where the international community would discuss potential resolutions to the war.
Impact: The civil war in Sudan labeled as the worst humanitarian crisis in history enters its third year of fighting with no potential solution to the conflict in sight. The Sudanese government has repeatedly accused the UAE of supporting the RSF and effectively participating in their genocidal war. With the international community set to meet on 15 Apr in London, no obvious resolutions have so far been brought to the table as the conflicting sides haven’t engaged in any form of negotiations. The US has condemned both the RSF and the Sudanese military for targeting civilians and sanctioned individuals and entities on both sides of the conflict. Sudan is currently plunged into several forms of crises which could deepen on a regional level, as political tensions and armed conflicts are flaring in South Sudan and Ethiopia. Foreign troop or peacekeeping forces involvement is currently highly unobtainable as the diplomatic pressure from the international community persists as the only way towards potential resolution.
