Description: With the ceasefire agreement between Hamas and Israel hanging in the balance, the Hamas leadership went to Cairo where talks were held with representatives from the Arab mediation delegation. Israel has confirmed its position that if the hostages weren’t released by the designated deadline, the IDF would recommence its military operation on the enclave. The Tuesday meeting between President Trump and Jordan’s King Abdullah II was also followed with the latter’s phone call with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El – Sisi where negotiating red lines and compromises were discussed between the parties. The Gaza ceasefire agreement was made porous even more by Trump’s statement of ownership over the enclave and the forcible displacement of Palestinians earlier this week.
Impact: Evident efforts are being made from the Arab mediators to keep the ceasefire agreement afloat of what is expecting to be a sea of violence and bloodshed in the upcoming period, if certain conditions aren’t fulfilled by both Hamas and Israel. The reports of the Israeli military remobilizing have been perceived as discouraging as Israel’s position leans even more towards reigniting their military campaign in the Strip. With the Houthis pledging to reinstate their military campaign as well, the region is looking at another prolonged period of warfare as the ceasefire agreement seems to be on the brink of faltering. Without Israel’s promise to seize military operations and open humanitarian corridors and Hamas’ reassurances to uphold the schedule on the hostage release, the war would be taken to a different and more violent stage than the one before. On the other hand, heavy diplomatic pressure could level the equation, and the ceasefire agreement could potentially enter its second and third stage of negotiations.
