Description: Google employees have been discovered to have allowed extensive access to several of their highly developed AI programs to the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF). Programs such as Gemini, Habsora, Vertex and Nimbus were all available and used by the IDF in intelligence gathering, target identification and the building of target packages. Although IDF’s statements negated the usage of the AI technologies to conduct attacks and inflict violence, reports raised concerns over tech giants like Google and Amazon facilitating Israel’s war against Hamas in Gaza and the West Bank.
Impact: Tech companies such as Google and Amazon should focus on providing full and complete transparency in their contracts with governments in order to avoid public defamation and possible stock exchange plunges amid the accusations. It’s no secret that contracts with governments, especially with the military within the countries are the most lucrative ones, however, there is a large part of these contracts that represents a regulative and legislative gray area which could be used for the conduction of serious illegal activities and war sponsorship.
