Description: On the precipice of the Munich Security Conference, EU and NATO members were left out in cold by the US and most notably their Vice – President JD Vance. The Conference mostly entailed conversations regarding the war in Ukraine, the upending of military spending and the dissolution of EU – US bilateral relations. Vice – President Vance had practically criticized the entire EU and all of NATO’s member countries for not showing initiative and not involving themselves into the global issues on the level that the US have. The Conference ultimately showed the discombobulated state of affairs in the multilateral relations between EU and the US and emphasized an adoption of diametrically opposing policies from both sides of the Atlantic.

Impact: The Munich Security Conference has imposed itself as the birthplace of the new multipolar world in which the US would abandon its century – long close ties with Europe and harbor a more unilateral approach in its foreign policy. The message that the Trump administration has sent is that EU and NATO countries would have to fend for themselves in future endeavors and that would be excluded from the Ukraine peace talks. With this novel United States that is much alike a far – right country than a global force for progress and development, Europe would have to rally its proverbial political and diplomatic troops since it would be facing the next crisis without the ever-present US support. Ultimately, the security conference emphasized that the prevalence for world dominance has been left vacant as the dissolution of the unified front between the US and the EU leaves a power vacuum which could be easily occupied by China or Russia.
